AP Language/Essay-Writing Specialist
Diane Watts is no stranger to the education community. A veteran AP English Language teacher, her curriculum design and practices serve as the foundation for this course at several top achieving high schools in Georgia. As lead instructor of AP English Language at both Northview and Johns Creek high schools, she has produced exemplary score results, year after year, on the national AP Language exam.
Watts’ experience is not limited to AP Language – a college-level course targeting argument and analytic skills; it is broad based. Over the course of 15 years, she has honed her skills as an educator, tutor, and mentor to students ranging in ability and skill level across the secondary school spectrum. As Language Arts Department Chair, Watts had the opportunity to fully understand and influence the holistic study of English from freshman year to graduation. She is credited with designing and implementing Writer’s Workshop, an academic elective, as well as championing a school-wide writing center – open to all disciplines. Her awards include: Northview High School STAR Teacher, Johns Creek High School Teacher of the Year finalist, and 11 Alive Class Act Award, but Watts counts as true accolades those coming from former students who realize the full value and power that come from knowing how to communicate well.
In 2016, Watts started her own company, Watts Professional Development, where she serves as Speaker and Strategic Communications Specialist for corporate clients.
Regarding her association with The David Academy:
“I love my career, my subject, and especially my students. Even though I have stepped away from the traditional classroom, I am more motivated and confident than ever that what I have to offer is truly valuable, even life-changing, for students. The ability to communicate well provides freedom of expression and opens doors that otherwise would be closed; nobody can put a price tag on that.”
